Monotonik

Monotonik is an Internet-only music label that _exclusively_ releases electronic music online in the mp3 format - subscribe to our RSS feed to get info on the latest releases.

In their words: All of our releases are freely downloadable and distributable for personal, non-commercial use, and we've been releasing .mp3 and .mod files online since May 1996. We offer mellow and melodic 'idm' electronic music, alongside bleep-inflected retro videogame soundtrack stylings, plus selections of more uptempo breakbeat, drum and bass, and 'nu chill', courtesy DJs, groups, and producers from all over the world. More information about the label is available at our main website, http://www.monotonik.com

With all the mp3s Monotonik+friends have been releasing of late, sometimes people (including us!) forget about the 200+ .MODs we released from 1996-1999, all of which are still available on the Mono site! Fortunately, US-based Luminfire hasn't forgotten about the early house, techno, and beat-based .MODs we put out as Mono back then, and so he put together this mix for us that highlights some of the best material from back then. Want your Mortimer Twang? We got it here. Want your ChuckB and...

Quite frankly, there is only one person who could possibly open the proceedings of monoRAVEik as a self-propelled entity, and that is the old fart himself. Subi brings it back after nearly a year (was it?) away from the tracker with the nearly understandable title "Trying 2 B Hardcore". If anyone thought that the cheesemix of "Serendipity City" was representative of Subi's new direction, they are proved wrong by this jet propelled slice of D&B&Rock&Roll. What new...

There's nothing like a little monoRAVEik action to mash the place up a little, and surprisingly enough, this time it's from a newcomer, Mistress Nine, busting out the proto-breakbeat moves so smoothly, you'd believe it was the lord Subi himself at the keys. You might know Mistress Nine as one of the leading lights in the DJ scene at 'The Village', Portmeiron's own special gated community. It's fortunate for us that she managed to get this mp3 unimprisoned, and we're now able to enjoy the blend...

After the unexpected and tragic loss of Andi Horvath, aka Ramone/Mono, of a sudden heart failure in June (tribute page here), we at Monotonik+friends were contacted by his friends at Fruitz Of Dojo (the Mac demo-scene group he was a member of) with a number of great unreleased Ramone .XM tracks (playable in WinAmp) which had been composed, in the months before he passed away, for both a demo ('Fistful Of Dojo') and a 'chip' music-disc ('SuperSIDekick Sessions'). So, we're proud to present these...

Finally here, and the first non-.MP3/.MOD release on Monotonik, we're _very_ proud to present an officially sanctioned compilation with the creator-picked best of the .SID (Commodore 64) tunes from the legendary Vibrants crew. Even for those of you who weren't C64-owners or fans, know this - Vibrants are a Danish crew who were formed back in 1987 and number some of the biggest composers in Commodore 64 history, including Laxity and Drax (both also members of the fabled Maniacs Of Noise), Metal...

It's not often that we rave so much about an artist that our eyes come clean out of their sockets and roll around at cheek level 'til we squidge them back in again. But in this case, we reckon the permanent vision degradation is worth it just to alert the world to Virt's presence. So, Virt, aka Jake Kaufman, is a US-based .MOD tracker and video-game composer with many Nintendo Gameboy and Gameboy Advance credits up the wazoo (including "Q-Bert" and "Who Wants To Be A...
